Cool Cats

Swamp coolers have been added to the cat quarters of the Sacramento Animal Shelter on Bradshaw Road, bringing feline relief inside concrete block buildings that can become uncomfortable in 100-degree weather.

Animal Control Officer Ruben Escala said the coolers are among a series of improvements designed to improve health and welfare of the region´s growing population of unwanted animals. "This is especially important in the spring when the litters from un-spayed cats begin to show up at the shelter," Ruben notes.

Three cat rooms housing approximately 100 cats received the upgrade, including wards for ill, pregnant, feral and quarantine.
