Gus´ Story

Photograph of a a McCaw named Gus.

For 17 years, a McCaw named Gus greeted customers in a West Sacramento pet store until he one day mysteriously disappeared. Valued at $2,500 Gus was stolen by a burglar who entered the store and took nothing else.

Owner Paul Holtzen posted a $1,000 reward for Gus' return, and posted fliers around town.

Customers were upset and missed Gus who entertained everyone with 'Here kitty, kitty, and 'meow.'"

On March 23, 2005 Sacramento County Sheriff's arrested a man in a car and called Animal Care Officers to impound a bird that was in the car with the driver. Animal Care employees recognized the bird, and Gus was reunited with his owner on March 28. Everyone was overjoyed to have Gus back!
