Callie and Ben's Success Story

Photograph of Callie and Ben the dogs in their backyard.

Shortly after moving to Sacramento and buying our first home we were ready for a dog. We found Callie (black Lab/Whippet mix) skinny and scared with "sad eyes" at the County shelter in October 2002. We adopted her and right away she became the light of our life.

A year and a half later I was a regular volunteer at the shelter when my husband came by to visit me and he saw another dog with "sad eyes". He asked if we could take him out and within minutes we were head over heels in love with this super sweet pit bull we named Ben. Adding a second dog to the family was a big decision and since Ben had already been at the shelter for a month and a half and we knew we had to make it fast.

Hoping that Callie and Ben would along, we adopted Ben. They have been best buddy's ever since! Ben adores Callie and follows her lead and Callie loves to groom Ben and wrestle with him. We don't know what we'd do without these special dogs in our lives and we're so grateful we had the opportunity to adopt them from the Sacramento County shelter.
